2nd ACSEE CONFERENCE, Zurich

On 25-26 October 2014, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huseyin Bilgin, Head of Faculty of Architecture and Engineering, delivered his speech as an invited keynote speaker in the “Second International Conference on Advances in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering – ACSEE” which was held in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Bilgin presented about “Seismic performance evaluation by means of nonlinear static methods: emphasis on RC buildings”.

In his speech, he outlined the analysis procedures developed in the last two decades for performance based seismic assessment and retrofit design of buildings structures. Nonlinear procedures within the framework of displacement based seismic assessment process are classified with respect to nonlinear modeling and acceptance criteria. He addressed the critical transition from linear engineering to nonlinear engineering practice. In this context, the need for practitioners’ knowledge on inelastic behavior methods in university education and professional training was highlighted. The importance of practice oriented nonlinear methods was summarized where special emphasis was given to pushover analysis. At the end, he concluded his speech with a detailed performance assessment of a case study building with nonlinear static procedures from real life.
Researchers from 52 different countries participated in this event. The conference included presentations covering a broad variety of topics of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering by Institute of Research Engineers and Doctors (IRED).
